Roy Desmond Thomas

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Roy Desmond Thomas on December 5th 2023 in Edmonton, Canada.

Roy Desmond Thomas was born on May 7th 1950 in St. Lawrence, Barbados. He married Vernesta Thomas on December 16th 1978 and moved with his wife to Edmonton from Montreal in August 1981. He was a retired Lead Hand at Clarke Transport Edmonton and enjoyed most sporting disciplines. However, Roy’s passion for Cricket was quite evident by his accomplishments on the Cricket Pitch as well as with his certification as a Cricket Umpire.

He is survived by Vernesta Thomas and his son, Shaquille Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents Vernold Desmond Thomas and Eutelle Eunice Thomas and his sisters Angela Thomas and Hetty Thomas (Barbados). Roy was the brother of George Thomas and his wife Ashlyne Thomas (Barbados). He was the brother in law of Lemuel Cryus (Canada dec’d) & Helen Cyrus (Canada), and Carolyn Cyrus (Trinidad & Tobago).

Roy was the uncle of Keishia Smith (USA), Binta Thomas (Barbados), Niambi Thomas (Barbados), Tamara Thomas (Barbados), Atiba Thomas (Barbados), Frederick Griffith (UK), Cortez Griffith (UK), Errol Griffith (UK), Claudja Cyrus (Canada), Shane Cyrus (Canada), Sade & Ashrah Abzakh (Canada), Shyaam Harvey (Trinidad & Tobago), Nzinga & Michael-Teri Welch (Trinidad & Tobago).

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 29th 2023 at the Edmonton Crematorium and Funeral Home, 6403 Roper Road NW, Edmonton, AB T6B 3G6. Viewing of the body will commence at 10.00 a.m and the funeral service at 11.00 a.m. Interment will be at the Rosehill Cemetery, 1605 141 St SW, Edmonton, AB T6W 1A3 at 2.00pm

The family of the late Roy Desmond Thomas wishes to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all those who have shown their love and support during this time of bereavement.
