Kamla Prasad

With great sorrow, the family of Kamla Prasad, announces her passing on April 13, 2024, at the age of 91.

Born in Rawalpindi on April 11, 1933 to Balmukund & Parmeshwari Bakshi, Kamla and her seven siblings lived blissfully among the fields of the Peshawar area. Hours were spent listening to her fascinating and beloved tales of Kontrila to Kohaat to Mastala.

In the tumult of 1947, they left behind their home and a 100 acres of fertile land in Kontrila, and moved as refugees to the Meerut-Delhi area, before settling in Bombay. The 13 year old Kamla emerged even stronger, a pure heart, a trailblazer by nature, fearless, fiercely independent, with boundless energy and an indomitable spirit. She gravitated towards social work & politics, sharing her passion with her late husband, Shri Rajeshwar Prasad, working alongside national political stalwarts. In 1989, Kamla moved to Edmonton, to be closer to her children and grandchildren, creating unforgettable memories.

Kamla will be forever loved and deeply missed by her daughters, Sonia Chahal (Sukhi) and Sabina Dang (Tanveesh); her grandchildren Radhika (Edwin), Shaan and Rohan (Avantika), and her beautiful greatgrandchildren.

To honor Kamla’s remarkable journey, a funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 20 at 11:00 am, at the Edmonton Crematorium & Funeral Service, 6403 Roper Road NW, Edmonton AB.
