Edward Francis Kyte

Edward Francis Kyte 9 March 1942 – 24 July 2023 Kentville, Nova Scotia – Edmonton, Alberta It is with much love and sorrow that we say goodbye to Ed after 11 years of suffering with dementia. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years Jean, his eldest son Iain (Camille Jaggernauth), his younger son Rory’s widow Philippa Fogarty and their 8 year old son Sam, his siblings, Kathryn Patterson (Dick), Ellen MacKinnon (the late John Francis), Fred Kyte (Connie), Charles Kyte (Ellen), Shellianne MacKinnon (Dougall), Heather Kyte (Mark MacDonald), Debbie Kyte (Robert Moores), as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins of the Kyte and Thomas families.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Frank in 1977, and Frances in 1993, as well as his son Rory in 2020.

Ed was an excellent scholar. He graduated from Dalhousie University, Halifax (DALTEC), with a B. Eng. Electrical (1965), and an MBA from the University of Alberta (1972). He is the former President of the city owned electric utility, Edmonton Power, (now Epcor) and the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Electrical Association (1987 – 1988) the national association of electric utilities. He held the position of Chairman of the Board of Community Integrated Electrical Systems (CIES). Ed was an active family man, supporting his sons’ early years variously as cub scout leader, hockey coach and later sharing and involving them in his interests of skiing, sailing and cabin building. Ed was a reserved, well-respected, kind, calm, patient, and ultra capable, courteous man. He was a voracious reader with a dry sense of humour and a deep love of music and his large extended family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him well.
